Jerry Gilligan > Weir Pond in Soft Light

I went by Weir Pond several times during my 8 day stay in the Easter Sierra, hoping for snow and soft light. The mountains were dusted from the prior days storm while another storm was brewing.

This image was made on Thursday October 6, in the late afternoon. There was only one other photographer. He was using a large format camera shooting from the road and looking across the pond... With Soft light and fresh snow, I was able to capture this peaceful scene...
Jerry Gilligan > Fall Color on Conway Summit

It was a beautiful day with the suns rays shinning through random clouds creating some great shadows and light on the quaking Aspens.

Jerry Gilligan > This image was made in the Eastern Sierra just above Bishop, Ca. in the Buttermilk's. The Buttermilk's is a favorite among rock climbers, campers, and off road enthusiast's.I was exploring the area in the early morning and came across this scene. Just after sunrise the sun went behind a cloud and a beam of light front lit the tree and kept Basin Mountain in shade.
Jerry Gilligan > The first Fall snow storm of 2011 rolled through the Eastern Sierra. It snowed all Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. After breakfast at Cardinal Village, the storm finally broke so I went up to North Lake to capture the moment. The wind was blowing hard at first and made my first few images difficult to record. This image was made at the small creek that flows out of North Lake. Fresh snow and soft clouds add to this crisp scene.
Jerry Gilligan > I pulled up to North Lake in the late afternoon to find a full parking lot from all of the Photogs working the lake. It began to rain and hail...The parking lot started to empty from the storm and I was able to park and wait for clearer skies. In this image, A beam of light finds a gap in the storm clouds to highlight a few Aspen along North Lake Road in the Easter Sierra

Jerry Gilligan > Lake Sabrina is a special lake in the Easter Sierra.

Lake Sabrina pronounced (Sab R eye na) is located at an elevation of 9138 feet.

You can drive right up to this Aspen lined lake with saw tooth glacier carved peaks. No hiking required.

I'm not taking away from the hikers who navigate the John Muir Trail to see all of the many hidden lakes.

You must hike many miles to get to these remote locations.

Sabrina will give you some insight on the beauty that exists in the far reaches of the Sierra Nevada.

The clouds do not always cooperate at sunset but on this evening nature put on a show in the clouds with a crescent moon rising above.
Jerry Gilligan > Soft light on the Aspen in Surveyor's Meadow along the road to South Lake in the Eastern Sierra.
This is a must see location when the Aspen are blazing with color. I spend a lot of time here early in the Fall Color season.
At different times during the day, the tree's take on an almost neon effect depending on the sun's location and the cloud cover.
There are Aspen that line the mountain valleys and ridges.
This image does no justice to the meadow, but it does give you a more intimate look at the play of light on these Aspen.

Jerry Gilligan > This image was taken about an hour after an Epic Sunrise...The clouds helped create dramatic light on the mountains and Aspens.

Jerry Gilligan > I have been going by here for 5 years and decided that this year I would get down to this spot. This water fall is a very short hike from the road but there isn't any parking close by so you need to hike back for access. All you could see from the road was this one red Aspen. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find such a great water fall.
