I came across this Buck early in the morning as he was following a doe and her young. The rutt was on and this Buck was no exeption, he did not let the Doe out of his site.
Grizzly Bear in Yellowstone National Park

A young grizzly bear emerging in early spring searching for food in Yellowstone National Park. This Grizzly was digging down with his 4" front claws and nose foraging in the snow along the road and caused a traffic jam.
I took many images of this bear, and in all of the images he did not lift his head or make any eye contact. If you are ever approached by a bear do not make eye contact, they might percieve this as a challenge or a threat.

There were many people following him and one lady was actually chasing him when a park employee warned her to back off and be careful. I'm very surprised to see how many folks are unaware of the speed and power of these creatures.

I was very fortunate to see a bear on my first ever visit to Yellowstone. Taken on April 21, 2012
After an overnight snow storm up in the Easter Sierra, the road along North Lake lined with Aspen made for a nice scene on this amazing morning.

Winter Scene Yosemite National Park

Light snow fell in Yosemite Valley the prior two nights. It has been over a month since the last snow storm so I was looking forward to getting back up to the mountains.

I drove up early Saturday morning pre-visualizing a winter scene. I drove around the valley surveying the meadows looking for the right composition. There were a lot of bare spots throughout the park which made my goal more challenging.

The soft morning light back-lit these trees against Cathedral Rock which made for a nice capture.

Bishop Creek and Aspen

This image was made along the North Fork of Bishop Creek Canyon just below Lake Sabrina.

The First Snow of Fall arrived overnight and I spent the day looking for unique compositions.

I have stopped at this location many times over the years...The snow and soft light with a slow shutter speed were all I needed to captured this scene.
First Light in Cooks Meadow side lights the famous Elm Tree.

This is the last remaining Elm Tree in Cooks Meadow. These tree's were brought here in the late 1800's.

James Mason Hutchings planted several orchards in Yosemite mostly containing apple trees but some cherry trees can be found. Hutchings also planted a row of American elms along the route of the present road that crosses the meadow north of the present Sentinel Bridge.
These were grown from seed supplied by Rev. Joseph Worcester of Waltham, Massachusetts.
