Clearing Storm at Tunnel View with a Double Rainbow.

This was a special day in Yosemite...It rained most of the day and I hoped that it might clear up for sunet. Tunnel view is ideal for late sun and if the clouds opened up we might get some great light. I set up my camera with an umbrella attached to my tripod. I was ready for nature to put on her show and she did not disappoint... As the sun rays came out the rainbow started to gradually form and only lasted for a few moments and then went away...It came back again for an oncore and radiated for over 5 minutes. I was able to capture a few images and then stood there in awe taking in another special moment at Yosemite !

First Light in Cooks Meadow side lights the famous Elm Tree.

This is the last remaining Elm Tree in Cooks Meadow. These tree's were brought here in the late 1800's.

James Mason Hutchings planted several orchards in Yosemite mostly containing apple trees but some cherry trees can be found. Hutchings also planted a row of American elms along the route of the present road that crosses the meadow north of the present Sentinel Bridge.
These were grown from seed supplied by Rev. Joseph Worcester of Waltham, Massachusetts.

Half Dome from Sentinel Bridge after a prevoius night snow storm.

Fresh snow in Yosemite Valley usually melts soon after it falls so I try to work the valley for it's many compositions...

Here is a typical image from a famous location...Sentinel bridge is a great place to get Half Dome and potential reflections in the Merced River.

It was hard to pass this up as the afternoon light enhances the scene with fresh snow...
Gates of the Valley Winter Sunrise

Four storms in less than a week passed over much of California which caused Yosemite to close on Friday January 22, 2010 after the last storm left heavy snow between 12 to 18 inches on trees causing them to bend and break. All roads leading into the park were closed all day while I waited outside not completely aware of all of the damage. Later in the day a caravan of cars left the valley to El Portal and another was lead back into the park only allowing residence and employee's access. I was able to enter after 5:00 pm. This sunrise was worth the long wait from the prior day.
